Not only she give many speeches on women’s rights as the First Lady under Bill Clinton’s presidency, she later became Senator of New York, and then Secretary of State. Speaking in the public eye frequently, Hillary began to be recognized for her ability to connect with the middle class citizens and minorities, while also confidently and passionately asserting her beliefs. Wile it’s not just her confidence while on stage, it is the way she can take an idea so complex, and break it down for the average person through the use of stories, imagery, and colloquial language. Rebecca Shambaugh of Forbes.com described Hillary Clinton’s gift of public speaking by writing, “She made her words count in an extraordinary way by creating visual pictures that touched people’s hearts. Her words and her approach helped to remind people of the importance of achieving their mutual goals together, and that she was behind the greater good for all.” That quotation alone sums up how Hillary Clinton’s speeches leave the audience feeling; …show more content…
However, her introduction to the roundtable was what was most impressive. She began her speech by discussing Nevada specifically and the economic turmoil they have had in recent years, which hits home for a lot of people at Rancho High School. By doing this, she immediately gained their support. She then went on to give an “argument from example”, by describing how when she was just twelve years old, she began to experience the misfortunes of immigration first hand in Chicago—and how at the end of the work day, “the bus that had the workers from the field on it […] stopped and let the workers off, and all these little kids started running down that path to go see their parents and were scooped up by these really, really tired people.” By saying this, she used colloquial language to explain that these hardworking people are genuinely seeking better lives for their families. Using pathos, Hillary goes on to compare these hardworking immigrants to her own family, yet the main difference was that these immigrants were living in filthy, unsafe camps.
