Enrolling in a nine-month pharmacy tech career program at Everest University, I decided to attend and obtain my award certificate in pharmacy, in addition, become a certified and licensed pharmacy technician. Why, pharmacy technician because I could play a vital role in the community as a pharmacy consumer advocate, serving immediate and long-term health needs and goals (Everest University). According to the bureau of labor and statistics becoming a pharmacy technician, first requires earning a high school diploma or the equivalent in addition to learning on the job training or completing a post-secondary education such as vocational school or community college. Regulated in most states, requiring a pharmacy technician to pass a formal exam, completing a formal education, and training program, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredits pharmacy technician programs that include at least 600 hours of instruction over a minimum of 15 weeks. Most importantly technicians must recertify every 2 years by completing 20 hours of continuing education courses requiring one of the twenty hours must be pharmacy law and patient safety.
