Another major influence is my family. The circumstances that have occurred within my own family through social factors, health issues and reflections have certainly been part of me wanting to help members of my family and other people alike.

As a small girl in foster care I saw social workers as powerful people who were able to impact my life in both positive and negative ways. I knew I wanted to become one of them but it wasn’t until I became an adult that I truly understand what the job entailed. Because I married and had children very young, I didn’t start college until I was in my early 30’s.
