Nick
Nick Carraway is the book “The Great Gatsby”s narrator. Within the book he takes on the quiet and reasonable part of Fitzgerald's personality. A man who travels to New York in 1922 to learn about the bond business. He lives in the West Egg district of Long Island next door to Gatsby. Nick is a nice choice to narrate the novel, whilst narrating this novel serves as a personal memoir of his experiences with Gatsby in the summer of 1922.
Nick is also a nice choice to narrate this novel because of the nature of his behavior. He says in chapter one that he is “tolerant, open-minded, quiet, and a good listener”. Others come to him with trust to keep their secrets. Gatsby for example comes to trust Nick. Nick seems to keep to himself throughout the novel. But as shown through his narration this hope about his own life is mixed up with his sharp, snarky characterizations of others, which mostly stays the same all through the novel.
