The first record of golf dates 1297, and golf was also known as, paganica by the Romans, chole by the Belgians, and kolven by the Dutch. Originally the game was played with a stick and a leather ball. Scotland outlined the rules of golf to include playing over a course with 18-holes. In 1779, the United States developed more advanced clubs and balls. By the 1920’s the sport’s popularity spread throughout the country. People appreciated the sport for its difficulty to master the proper techniques and strategies.
