Parents should always teach what is right and wrong and share their knowledge about alcohol consumption with their kids. Parents could teach responsible drinking, explain what alcohol can do to their brain as they are still continuing to grow and to teach them how important being a designated driver is versus being one who is consuming alcohol. Teachers would be able to have classes on what alcohol consumption can do to the body, present the statistics of how much drunken driving has caused in the loss of life and property damage.
Many high schools are now conducting presentations of drunken driving crashes and allowing students to role play as EMT’s, police officers, drunken drivers, passengers etc. This allows the students to see the effects of consuming alcohol can do to not only themselves but their classmates or even their family members. Many police departments or non -profit organizations donate their time to present these demonstrations and have goggles which portray the sensation of being drunk. Many believe binge drinking would decline in underage students. Drinking has also been linked to rebellion amongst teenagers. By lowering the drinking age, this might prevent some teens from acting out or rebelling against authority figures such as parents. Courses on responsible drinking could be introduced in high schools and colleges much the same as the sex education courses have been introduced. Maybe incorporate rules the same as when one reaches the age of sixteen and obtains a driver’s permit. If one test is passed, then there is a step up in the program to obtain the next
