First, ambition can make people evil. When Macbeth goes in to kill Duncan, Macbeth says, “I go and it is done, the bell invites me. Hear it not, Duncan; for it is a knell that summons thee to heaven or hell” (2.1.70-73). Macbeth evil towards Banquo when he meets with the murderers and sends them to kill him and Fleance. Macbeth says that Banquo being alive is making him sick, but if him and his sons were dead, he would be perfectly healthy (3.1.114-115). When Macbeth, his wife and the lords were at the banquet, Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost and says, “Thou canst not say I did it, never shake thou glory locks at me” (3.4.59-60). Another moment when Macbeth seemed crazy was before he was going into war and his servant is trying to put on Macbeth’s armor but Macbeth says, “Come, put mine armour on…pull’t off, I say...bring it after” (5.3.56,62,67), confusing the servant.
