I would say that my biggest struggle in the W131 class was incorporating my personal thoughts into my work. I say that because, prior to college, I was taught to not include my own thoughts in my writings and to be a neutral informer. However, I now realize that it is a necessity to include my thoughts in each of my writings, because since it is my own, readers want to hear my voice as well as the information. With the information I educated myself on, I would then include it into my essay without plagiarizing while incorporating my own thoughts. While it is important to have my own opinions in my essay, I do realize that the author from who I am gathering information from thoughts should be integrated as well. Using quotations from the author is how I included the author’s perspective. Also, at the end of each essay I was required to properly cite each source I obtained using MLA format.
