How can the government improve health care for military veterans?
The suicide rate of returned veterans is 22 veterans per day (Gourley 1). “To help insure the VA has the capacity to diagnose and treat veterans returning from the Iran and Afghanistan conflicts, as well as to maintain these services for other veterans, we recommend that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs direct the Under Secretary for Health to prioritize those recommendations needed to improve PTSD services and to expedite VA’s time frames for fully implementing those recommendations” (Bascetta 1). Many conflicting statistics show that there is not enough being done to help recover returning veterans that need help, but there are not enough systems and doctors. A study has revealed that only half of returning veterans receive treatments (“Foundations” 1). Many people agree that the numbers of returning veterans getting treatments should be higher. The government can train more doctors to get more systems so that more veterans can receive treatment.
