Today we are allowed to make new amendment's when necessary, to protect citizen's rights; because of the Constitution. In order to make a new amendment, it has to be proposed by Congress or the state legislatures. Although the Constitution is ignored sometimes, it has never failed to serve its purpose. Though we think the Constitution fails us, it's only able to cover the things it was created for; not all the issues in the world. When it comes down to it, it's the purpose of the people to solve the issues, not the Constitution. A piece of paper can only solve so much.
So why is the Constitution really here? As said before, it was created to keep one person from having total control. However, it's most valuable objective was the rights of the people. It's the reason why we are able to create more rights for people. For example, the Thirteenth Amendment was able to be created in the 1860's, because the Constitution allowed for the addition of new laws or Amendments.
