Reduce the number of CAUTI by educating staff when to insert and remove catheters. 98 % of catheters will be removed by the stated time in the facilities guidelines.
2. Reduce the number of CAUTI by educating staff on the proper care of catheters. Catheters will be kept under the patient’s bladder, the flow of urine to remain unobstructed, the bag will be emptied regularly, the bag not to be place on the floor and catheters drainage system will remain closed (not broken).
Rational:
1. By reducing the number of catheters placed and the number of days catheters are in place greatly reduces the incidences of CAUTI.
2. By maintaining a closed drainage system and maintaining proper care of the catheter drainage system there will be less chance of bacteria entering the system and causing a CAUTI.
