Triple X syndrome was discovered by Patricia Jacobs in 1959. A researcher who was working in a hospital in Scotland. Patricia Jacobs discovered that Females normally have 2 X chromosomes in all cells- one X chromosome from each parent. This usually pertains to women and girls to wear as they have 3 X chromosomes. Triple X Syndrome causes females to be taller than average height. With especially long legs--the most typical physical feature. Females with this disorder have delayed development of speech and language skills. Also motor skills consisting of sitting up and walking. Learning disabilities such as difficulty reading also known as dyslexia, understanding or math. This affects memory, judgement and information. Causes weak muscle tone also known as hypotonia. Abnormally curved fingers. Behavior and emotional problems. Vertical fold or skin that covers inner corners of eye. Eyes are widely spaced. Premature ovarian failure or ovary abnormalities. Infertility or menstrual irregularities. Early or late puberty. Causes constipation, abdominal pain, seizures, kidney abnormalities, frequent urinary tract infections.
