25 April 2016 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo On February 2,1848, The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed. It is the oldest treaty still in force between the United States and Mexico. Mexico didn't follow through its threat to declare war so it has ended Mexican-American in a favor if the United States. They wanted to start a war because of the fight over territorial dispute involving Texas. The treaty even added an additional 525,000 square miles to the United States territory. Mexico also gave up claims to Texas and recognized the Rio Grande as America’s southern boundary. James Polk was chosen by the U.S Congress to declare war on Mexico. During
