1. Traditional knowledge is systems set in place that has instilled cultural traditions that have been passed along to members of a society. Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) showcases the relationship between human beings with one another and their environment. TEK is most often used as an oral tradition that passes along the healing properties of plants located in countries where pharmaceuticals are a less likely form of medicine. Ethnoscientists are increasingly interested in TEK because it is regularly used to withstand indigenous people and preserve resources necessary for the survival of its people.

The Inuit perceived the changes in their environment by looking to elders for knowledge behind the seasons. In the fall with no ice formed they can predict whether the ice will be late or early. With the warming of the sea water, seals are no coming ashore for sunbathing and to cool down because they are overheating underwater. Sealskins used to be of high quality but with the mining activities and recent climate changes, the fur has produced to rotten patches and would also rip easily. Global warming is highly noticeable in the land of the Inuit because it is affecting them greatly. The melting ice is causing the disappearance of glaciers which then exposes the permafrost. Permafrost, ground frozen for more than two years consisting of: solid rock, remains of organisms, and ice or water; will soon turn to mud as time passes and the earth continues to warm. Scientist blame the Inuits for endangering the animals of the land by overharvesting. Inuit feel as though the harm is for more great at the hands of scientist. Scientist are placing radio collars around the necks of polar bears handicapping their ability to hunt for food in seal air holes, causing malnourishment. Wildlife biologist are then tagging the ears of the bears causing them to go deaf, which in turn causes the bears to hunt for their food by smell wandering them to town where the locals
