The use of torture can completely ruin the image of one's country, which can make other people or countries lose respect, or even disrespect them. If America starts using torture, it would put us on the same level as all of those horrible countries in the Middle-East, that are mostly looked down upon. Torture also has some long term effects. It is believed that after using torture strategies, the person who is doing the torturing can obtain a very guilty conscious. In some cases, the people doing the torturing have committed suicide, because they cannot cope with what they have done Torturing suspected terrorist could also cause very serious aggravation from the nation or group that the terrorist is from or orchestrated in. In a poll that was taken between March 22-28 of 2016, approximately 35% of Americans believed that the use of torture on suspected terrorist is “often necessary”. In the same poll, around 28% of Americans believed that torture is “sometimes necessary”, depending on the suspected plans that the certain terrorist holds. Along with these numbers, 14% of Americans think that torture is “rarely necessary” to use on these people. Believe it or not, only about 23% of Americans said that they do not believe torture is ever necessary under any situation. In these numbers, 82% of the members of the Republican party thought that torture was at least “rarely necessary”.
