The ‘Thriller’ music video incorporating a well executed, zombie apocalypse themed dance was choreographed by Michael Peters and Michael Jackson in 1982. Elements of composition such as space, rhythm, dynamics and relationships are used throughout, enhancing the storyline and choreography. At 9.29, the director uses short, truncated shots of supernatural beings all giving an over the shoulder glance, amplifying the zombie and thriller genre instilling an eerie sense in the audience. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed and liked this dance as the choreography was very different to a typical jazz routine but extremely appropriate for the supernatural setting, it was challenging, diverse and complex due to execution of the elements of composition. The routine and entire music video is iconic and extremely successful, outlining the spookiness and supernatural theme intended and epitomising the thriller genre.
