During the time of Mohammed, people traveled to a shrine in Mecca, which was a place where they worshipped many gods. Mohammed thought businessmen used the visitors for profit and decided to change the pilgrimages to worship only one god, Abraham. Mohammed is said to have received a visit from the angel Gabriel during meditation; and he preached the revelations he received during this visit from then on. Mohammed did not have many followers until he began preaching to the residents of Mecca that they should be charitable and live good lives and only have one god. Many people believed him, but the rulers became hostile to him; so he and his followers moved to Medina to seek refuge. This is when the Islamic Era began; and he became a religious leader in Medina. Mohammed delivered his last speech on Mr. Arafat and died after returning to Medina. In the documentary, Professor Muesse talked about how important temples, churches, and mosques are in the practice of the three religions. All three religions’ places of worship are based on their holy texts. Mosques are built according to the Koran and basically follow only a few different styles. Christian churches have many different designs, but most contain common traditional features. There are no grand synagogues left today because of all the destruction the Jewish people
