Thomas’ stories are what keep him sane. He loves to tell stories to anyone who will listen, and most of the time it is him talking to himself while people are walking by. When Thomas tells his stories he goes deep into his thought and puts a large amount of work into his story. There is an instance in the book where Thomas breaks into one of his stories, and this story is about Victor’s father while Victor and he were on their way to Phoenix. Thomas tells of when he was thirteen years old and he wanted to go to Spokane to go to the Falls that were located there. It took him all day to travel there from the reservation, and when he approached the falls he stood there in front of the them, waiting for a vision. While he was waiting for a vision to come upon him, Victor’s father walks up to him and asks what he was doing in Spokane and Thomas replies that he was there looking for a vision. Thomas then figures that Victor’s dad was his vision. His dreams were telling him to “Take care of each other,” referring to Victor and him. His dreams were telling him to take care of Victor and Victor will take care of him. It was a coincidence that Thomas would tell of this story while he and Victor are on their way to pick up Victor’s father because they are both reminiscing about Victor’s Father’s life. They both had a relationship with Victor’s father. Victor was his son and his father had a decent relationship with him while he was a part of his life before he left the reservation. Thomas remembers Victor’s father through all of the dreams and visions he has. He appears in these dreams talking about Victor and Thomas as they were children growing up and playing on the reservation. The only way that Victor heard something about his father was through Thomas’
