On the contrary, she stood up to all the criticism and instead of being isolated she used her talent to overcome these challenge. She helps people in need and as a result many people start saying that “the letter was a symbol of her calling” as it began to stand for able(Hawthorne 148). Hester has embraced her mistake and tried to become her best possible version of herself. The scarlet letter might have been at first a punishment but throughout the story its meaning comes into question.Just as Hester Prynne makes good of her situation so does Proctor. Despite at first confessing and writing his consent of it, he realizes that if he were to do that he would be living a lie for the rest of his life. He proclaims “ i am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang, how may I live without my name”(Miller 1333). As a result, he ripped up his confession and faced the uncertainty of being hanged. Both have the courage to stand up for themselves amidst all the criticism. Also, both put the future of their children and family before themselves and as a result they take better care of them and set future examples in their lives. Even thought you might think that at the end of a shakespearean play that the main character’s lives are a tragedy the outcome of the lives of Proctor and Hester are different they both make the best out of their situation. A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming
