Ericsson believes that even though we do tend to lies it doesn't make us bad people. She believes that even though telling the truth is the right thing to do it is not realistic to do all of the time. Often times people do not tell the truth because they might fear the consequences so they use lies to cover up. “A friend called and said they wanted to take me to lunch and I said I was busy. While this little white lie didn't cause any harm, it was used as a way to make your friend think you did something else when you really don't want to go. Technology can influence lying because while you are having a conversation with someone over a device, there is always a barrier between you and the other person which makes it easier to lie. Statistics show that communicating over the phone is the most dishonest way of communication, while email and resumes are the most honest way of communicating. A common question that could be asked is, why are certain methods of communication more honest than others ? Many people feel as though resumes and emails are formal ways of communication and they should be written with thorough consideration of who’s reading. I feel as though technology allows people to second guess themselves on telling the truth.
