The Irish Civil War occurred in the early 1920s between the people and the republicans. The Irish civil war also pushed people out of Ireland “political instability and a weak economy led to continued emigration throughout the 19th and 20th century”(Irish Civil War), and into other surrounding countries and especially into the United States. The Irish culture had left a big influence on America even in today’s time with the celebration of St. Patty’s day, along with Irish pubs and restaurants. Immigrants from all over were attracted by the many job opportunities America had offered, but they weren’t informed of all the facts. Foreigners were given the most dangerous and low paying jobs with few regulations and little to no union protection. Women and children were considered complimented workers because they were not needed, thus being paid way less than the average male. They were also the last to be hired and while, “10 million Americans lived below the poverty line out of a population of 76 million”(7), there was no such thing as unemployment so there would be an overpopulation of non-workers who lived in overcrowded, dense, and dirty
