The Tulsa Zoo is the only zoo located in Tulsa (there is an aquarium located in Jenks). It is located by Mohawk Park, in the northern area of Tulsa. The Zoo has many exhibits: Africa, Asia, Children’s Zoo, Chimpanzee Connection, Conservation Center, Life in the Cold, Life in the Desert, Life in the Forest, Life in the Water, Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve, Oceans and Islands, and The Rainforest. A new exhibit called the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to be opened in 2017. “Lost Kingdom will allow guests to roam through lush gardens and settings inspired by ancient Asian cultures”(The Tulsa Zoo). One feature of this new exhibit will be large cats such as tigers. (The Tulsa Zoo) The Tulsa Zoo is involved in education and in conservation. In the past 20 years, the Tulsa Zoo has been involved in between 300 and 400 different conservation projects. They have educational programs for all ages from preschool to adult. It is our national bird. The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a very large bird of prey found in throughout North America (Figure 7). It has mostly dark brown feathers, except for having white feathers on its head (Figure 6). This is how it got the name bald eagle. Their legs and bills are yellow. Babies are not born with this color pattern but obtain it in about five years. They live near bodies of water such as “lakes, reservoirs, rivers, marshes, and coasts” (All about Birds). I live along the Mississippi River, so I have the privilege of seeing bald eagles fairly often. Even though their favorite food is fish, they are considered opportunistic predators. They will eat food such as rabbits or squirrels and even steal food from other animals. (All about Birds, National Eagle
