Most people who are sentenced to prison for nonviolent crimes are often guilty of ether drug usage or being in possession of drugs. However merely putting these individual in prisons, and taking them out of society, causes more damage to them than it does benefit them. Instead of being placed in rehabs, where they can receive proper aid with dealing with their addictions, instead of having their lives and families ripped away from them, and placed in an institution that is unhelpful in their case of rehabilitations. Community sentencing for other forms violent crimes, like vandalism, can also be more beneficial as both a form of rehabilitation and as a deterrent, such as fines or community service. Prisons have their benefits, earning their place in modern society, but they are not perfect systems and should be reserved for either violent or high profile nonviolent offenses, such as theft or
