In the Curtis family, we can see how the three brothers are different from each other. Pony narrates how he has an interest in watching movies alone and reading books. He says, “Nobody in our gang digs movies and books the way I do.” This shows that Ponyboy is imaginative. His imaginative side can also be seen later in the book when he admits to Cherry Valence, a Soc girl who he met in the movie theater, that he watches sunsets. Ponyboy is also someone who doesn't like to fight and get into trouble. He says this in the beginning when he says, “Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old-souped gas stations and have a gang fight once in awhile. I don't mean I do things like that.” Also, when Two- Bitt, another member of the greaser gang, gave Pony a bottle that was busted off the end to fight with some of the Socs when a fight was brewing up, Pony said “ I couldn't use this,” “ I could never cut anyone...” This shows that Pony is not violent unlike Two-Bit who was ready to fight and flicked out a switchblade. He is not tough even though greasers are supposed to be tough which make him different. Another event, in which we can see how Ponyboy is different is when he recites the poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” by Robert Frost to Johnny, his best friend. He also says “ you ain't like the …show more content…
He is understanding, happy-go-lucky, handsome and not intelligent like Pony. He was a dropout from high-school and did not care about his education unlike Ponyboy who cared about his grades and school. Another way in which we learn how Sodapop is different is from what Darry tells Ponyboy. He says, “When Sandy went to Florida ..... it wasn’t Soda, Ponyboy. He told her he loved her, but i guess she didn’t love him like he thought she did, because it wasn’t him....” “ He wanted to marry her anyway, but she just left.” This shows how Sodapop is very different than most people at the age of almost seventeen. He is ready to love and marry a girl who cheated on him, and then got pregnant. He was also willing to take care of her baby even after knowing that who he had loved so much had broken his heart. Most boys of his age would have been angry and would leave Sandy, having nothing to do with her or her baby but Sodapop is different and
