So what are cyclones and where abouts do they form? What are the effects of climate change on cyclones, will the frequency of them change? What are the negative effects and what can be done to prevent these? More awareness should be given out and buildings should be made able to withstand strong winds.
A cyclone is an intense spinning storm that forms over tropical oceans. Cyclones get placed into categories depending on their wind speeds. Any cyclone that has wind speeds less than 91 kph is classified …show more content…
Cyclones will become less frequent where they usually form now. This is because a cyclone forms when the ocean's surface is warm and the atmosphere above is colder. So as the earth heats up this range from warm to cold, will change and the cold atmosphere will heat up. Therefore making cyclones not as frequent as they are usually in these normal areas.
Will cyclones become more frequent in New Zealand? This is very possible that cyclones will become more frequent in New Zealand. This is because the oceans around New Zealand normally will have a cold surface plus a cold atmosphere. And as the climate heats up the ocean's surface will possibly heat up also. Since the new range will be warm and cold cyclones will form. Already we are starting to see a few more cyclones that are coming down to New Zealand and this might just slowly get worse. Eventually we may even have cyclones forming closer to New Zealand than …show more content…
This will help mitigate the effects of cyclones on people's lives. If a programme was added into schools that taught them how they could stay safe or prepare for a cyclone this will decrease the number of deaths. This will work because than people will be able to determine if they need to leave and evacuate or if they just need to tie things down. This programme will also teach them how powerful cyclones can be and what you should be preparing for.
The positives and negatives of raising awareness. The positives being that people will be able to judge and know how strong the cyclone will be. This is good because usually you wouldn't really be able to determine this and if you know you will be able to prepare in time. And a negative of this being is that this programme could cost a bit extra to make and put into schools or onto the tv. More positives will be that people's lives can be saved because of their knowing of cyclones
