The most startling statement that I read was “Having a white-sounding name was as beneficial as eight years’ work experience.” This seems very unfair to me, even as a white male. Those who are the most qualified or experienced should obtain the position, regardless of their race. What was equally shocking, was that the female candidates were suggested salaries $4,000 lower than the male candidates. I believe that employees who do the same work should be paid the same, regardless of gender. The second media site that resonated most with me was “Young People Want Equality but Struggle to Discuss Bias,” by Gene Demby. The articles focuses on young people’s opinions on bias regarding race, and to a lesser extent, regarding sexual orientation. The study described in the article said that 65 percent of colored people felt whites had more had more opportunities than people from racial minority groups, while only 39% of whites said the same. This was surprising to me, because the vast difference between those two numbers shows how much disparity actually exists between white Americans and minorities in the United
