The most contemporary religion according to Martin is evangelical Christians who believe a “born again” personal experience is central. However Christians believe that there is only one God called “monotheism”, which they call father as Jesus Christ taught them. Religion has a powerful role in shaping ideas of social justice, civil unrest and conflict. The tension between church and state lies directly in Christian history. “Religious legitimization” is responsible; throughout most of history the state had dominated the church on occasion the church would dominate the state. This feud between separation of church and state is still being debated to this day. While the constitution stands as prohibiting a religious establishment also widely protects the free exercise of religion. The declaration on the other hand is significant to a sup apolitical sovereignty, to a God who stands above the nation and whose ends are standards by which to judge the nation and indeed only in terms of which the nation’s existence is justified, becomes a permanent feature of American political life ever
