The princess is the focus of the painting and always held higher than anyone in the picture. In Velázques’s version the attendees work for her and in picasso's version, the princess is holding the attendee. Picasso made the dress the same sand yellow color and shape. I think that Picasso made the painting of the mirror that is in the background of the original by Velázques. So the paintings seem to have the same objects in them to me. The colors in Picasso’s background match the colors on Velázques version. The setting of both the paintings is the same but not in as much detail as Velázques’s version. And lastly, the people in Picasso’s version are the same. The princess is the main point and the attendees are lower than her. Picasso has the princess holding the attendee to represent that they are lower.
Now Velázques was known for realism and that is what he made this painting in the style of. Picasso on the other hand painted in cubism. The two paintings look so much different from each other just by having straight lines. In the painting. Velázques ads himself into every paintings. Picasso doesn’t include Velázques or himself in his version. Also the attendee count is subtracted by 3 in Picasso’s version. The attendee is also being held by the princess. These are just a few of the differences that I saw in the
