The United States brought technological advancements from the roads to war, there were very few aspects of modern day life that were not affected by the technological innovation that would soon spread across the world. The use of the railroad simulated territorial expansion and a national economy. These advancements of transportation, which brought faster, less expensive transportation encouraged both cultural and territorial expansion. With a growing nation the need for an instant, long distance form of communication started to grow, and the telegraph brought this. The invention of the telegraph helped maintain railroad schedules, making the amount of the crashes decrease exponentially. The innovations of communication connected the nation in a fast, inexpensive way, making it more possible for cohesion of America, which stemmed many later technological advancements. Another factor which brought technological advancements outside of it’s own category were agriculture innovations. Both the cotton gin and the McCormick reaper increased the productivity of agricultural work, and because of this there were less workers needed. “By reducing the number of workers needed, such new agricultural machines helped send displaced laborers to work on railroads and in textile mills, iron foundries, shoe factories, coal mines, oil fields, and other new industries in towns and
