I was pleasantly surprised because what I expected to be just a fun vacation turned out to be a reality check, an experience of a lifetime, and a memory full of life lessons. Going on an airplane with just my cousin whom is the same age as me was a new journey for me to embark and at the time I figured it was going to be all blissful but I didn’t realize that what I would gain would be much more. I had family there but since they were much older it wasn’t only hard to connect with them but they were really strict. I thought that waking up at six in the morning for school was bad but I had to wakeup even earlier since I was with my great-aunt and uncle and they had a set routine. The stubbornness that I had didn’t last long since on the second day there we jogged and ran for two hours at five in the morning this was my first step into branching off of childhood and adolescents because discipline was necessary for me to leave a good impression in my family and not feel sluggish. Although I’m fluent in Spanish I still had what was called an American accent, which made it harder for me to fit in and I had to learn how to deal with that. Waking up extremely early, showering in cold water, learning different recipes and how to cook where only a few of the things I had to get accustomed to. In the beginning I was ungrateful for the people I had in my life so instead of wanting to visit my grandmother I would want to go sight seeing or visit friends but realized the importance of family and visited her multiple times little did I know that would be the last time I got to see her . Later on after following a strict routine while at the same time enjoying my trip and learning about the culture by participating in the flower
