Many believe that it should be a high priority for children’s education because, it prepares each individual for their future education. In the article of The importance of bilingual education states, “many argue bilingual education works, [whereas] many others argue it does not work. It is highly political because, in some states, like California, Arizona and Massachusetts, English-only initiatives have been passed and, as a consequence, their bilingual programs have been dismantled” (Importance). In other words, due to the diverse ethnicity of students, bilingual education is being taught in these states. In the article of Cognitive Benefits of Learning Languages states, “Students who are learning a foreign language out-score their non-foreign language learning peers in the verbal, standardized tests, increased mathematical skill development, particularly in the area of problem solving” (Congnitive). Young children who begin to learn a foreign language have the ability to develop and maintain focus better than other children in different subjects which in that case plays a key role in their academic success.
