For the most part, none of the individuals that I am around on a daily bases are avid readers. They mostly read to gain information or to seek clarification on a topic. In discovering this fact, students will begin to see the positive aspects of books, which will gradually lead to a lifetime of reading for more information or understanding. To further extend this point, we as adults must cut off the televisions and read with our children! Maybe family reading time, or family book club. Innovations like this will demonstrate to our students and children that reading is important and we all utilize these skills. Instead of stressing winning in sports stress the ability to read the play manual. The best thing I think the community can do is to show the youth that reading is fun and educational. By centering community events based on reading and education. Make reading a mandatory action when registering for sports or a big prized game at the community fair. Keep the youth aware of the power of written words.
This course has truly been instrumental in increasing my knowledge in the challenges of reading. In light of the information learned within this course, I plan to structure my educational career around incentives that stress and address the critical aspects of reading. I have made it a goal to ensure that students are comfortable within their reading levels. So, that they are able to understand and locate information, in an effort to teach the value in written word. All of this will be implemented through relatable instruction that uniquely identify to the student and their motivation
