Poor dietary intake can lead to low energy levels, obesity, drowsiness, and in some more extreme circumstances, blindness, mental retardation, and even death (Barbosa Gonçalves, Thimoteo da Cunha,
Stedefeldt, & de Rosso, 2015). Receiving a healthy and wholesome nutrition is vital to ones education, productivity levels, and overall well-being. It is imperative that our schools provide only the most nutritional school lunches and snacks for our students to ensure that their education is not jeopardized by insufficient nutrients. By providing adequate nutrients to students at schools, limitations will be placed on obesity, failure, depression, malnutrition, and so many more problems this world faces due to poor dietary decisions.

In order for this to happen, I think a nutrition class should be implemented in all schools and students should be required to take it, as well as, requiring a physical education class to ensure that students are exercising just as much as they are getting their vital nutrients – for the two go hand in hand. By requiring a nutrition and PE class, we are implementing in the minds of the students just how important it is to regulate how you treat your body. We need to be sure they understand the importance of a good healthy diet and exercise plan for their well being depends on it. School lunches have evolved tremendously since recent precautions such as, introducing locally grown food into schools, restricting caloric intake and saturated fats, and allowing for all students the ability to eat, have taken their place in schools.
