If you were to ask many people today what made you the person you are today? One answer will be repeated and that is their upbringing had a huge influence in the type of person they are now. A neighborhood is predominately the place where everyone will meet new people, interact with neighbors, and meet up with friends on a daily basis starting from childhood and continues through adulthood. The setting you see every day will ultimately determine how a large majority of people will turn out in the future no matter if the area is a good or bad one. If the children of the parents who are constantly working live in an urban are during the time the parents are working there usually isn’t anyone at home to keep them home or to them focused so they take to the street. Friends are the focus of their attention instead of parents. “During adolescence, there is a marked increase in the importance of the peer group to adolescent socialization, as adolescents shift their focus from the family to their peers”(Brook 2011). Many young adult seek friend approval instead of the approval of family because most do not get a chance to receive approval from family every day. If I were to grow up in a different neighborhood I would still be the same due my mother’s constant involvement in my life in matters from small to large.
