The German musicologist, Hermann Kretzschmar, changed the teachers’ evaluations to get more qualified teachers. Music from Mozart, Beethoven, and others were utilized in school performances and music class. They used their music so that students could develop a deeper understanding of music (Kertz-Welzel, 2004). A man named Carl Orff, had a theory that music education should use all the human senses and children should be active performers on instruments (Kertz-Welzel, 2004). After 1945, the music education system changed again because of technology advancement and the educational system after the historical even of Sputnik. American ideas and the development of communication skills had an influence on the new education system (Kertz-Welzel, 2004). German music education has been trying to move towards a more student-centered and active classroom (Kertz-Welzel, 2004). The idea of constructive music is used in developing the child’s education. Rhythmic movement is the main focus until around fifth grade, then the content becomes more difficult so children learn the sense of harmony. Children learn music through the use of song, play, and dance (Kraus, 1956). Musical instruction isn’t limited to only singing. Percussion instruments and clapping and stamping are other ways children can make music (Kraus, 1956). The ideal method of teaching songs during the nineteenth century was by imitation or reading notations (Kertz-Welzel, 2004). Music seems to be incorporated into classroom because it is beneficial, and I want to learn teachers’ strategies of incorporating it.
In Germany, there is a career one can go into that is called a community music worker. These workers work in areas with social, cultural, and environment issues.
