She was working on experiment that is classified as hazardous, yet her action was unsafe. Research ethics demand that negligence, and carelessness in experimental procedure be avoided (David, 2011).
Laboratory safety negligence that is also of interest is cited in (Schrag, 1999). This is a case of a research student working with materials that are highly poisonous at temperature above 400F. In the same laboratory, his research colleague ignored the no-eating in laboratory rule. This case study shows a complete abuse of laboratory safety standards. The research students act in a manner that put them at risk. Research ethics frown at acts that are not health friendly.
Undergraduate should never carry out familiar experiment without proper supervision. A student may understand the procedure and reagent handling so well, but should never do experiment without supervision and safety equipments on. Laboratories have rules that govern it use. To plagiarize simply means to use the content of another author’s work without proper mention of the source. The source in this case is referring to the author of the original material from where the content was got. The reason for ethics in research is actually to protect the author’s idea, and prevent others from violating the author’s intellectual property right. Imagine a situation where your undergraduate project report was copied and submitted by your colleague unknown to you. How would you feel when you get to know about?
