It was a spring without voices. On the mornings that had once throbbed with the dawn chorus of robins, catbirds, doves, jays, wrens, and scores of other bird voices, there was now no sound; only silence lay over the fields and woods and marsh.” This is extremely relevant because in the passage it’s the effects of us humans affecting the world negatively and the effect that came out of it. As humans we need to understand that we cause most of the world’s problems we have today. In the short story “Silent Springs” on paragraph 8, page 364, it says, “No witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people had done it themselves.” This is significant because most believe that the plant has caused this destruction not us. For example, in “Nobel Speech”, page 374, paragraph 10, says, “So today, we dumped another 70 million tons of global‐warming pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet, as if it were an open sewer. And tomorrow, we will dump a slightly larger amount, with the cumulative concentrations now trapping more and more heat from the sun.” 70 million tons is roughly 140 million lbs. We humans dump 70 million tons of pollution alone. Imagine how much trash we dump or how much oil we spill per day. The number is increasingly high and if we don’t help decrease it we will ruin our atmosphere and every living thing on
