I applied to Silva Health Magnet and was accepted. At Silva I was able to develop skills in fields of patient care, medical terminology, and forensics. They allowed me to take the classes I was interested in, and my junior the teachers, who were prior health care professionals elaborated on experiences, diseases, and the daily routine of their occupation. They assigned us to various hospitals and clinics to shadow different physicians, for four hours every other day we made rounds in a variety of fields ranging from pathology to physical therapy. I was exposed to every part of medicine, but it was only the surface of medicine. We never spent enough in one place to completely understand all the angles of physician’s daily routine. My classes were also medically oriented. When studying biology, we learned about viruses and I became so enthralled with the thought of how something so small and not alive could affect so much. Growing in a predominantly Hispanic city, I understand what a huge impact culture has on health. Culture may also hinder communication and create misunderstanding. At a medical school community I will be able to learn many diverse cultures, along with display my understanding of my own culture.
At Medical School I will be able to learn how to take the painting and dissect what details are needed to learn the whole story. I will also be able to learn more in depth about what it takes to be a physician, including how to handle difficult situations. I will learn to be a sounding board any one could trust.
