To be comfortable is to have a sense of ease and relaxation physically and emotionally (Macmillian, 2009). Some people think to be an expert at any profession is to feel comfortable in what you are doing. I believe this to be false. For someone to perform highly in their careers, they have to be constantly on edge (Laureate., 2013a). Seeking out new techniques and strategies to improve their performance. Continuously observing and reflecting on their performances, so they can improve in the future. Therefore, I believe that to become a high performance teacher, it takes being active and energize. My classroom uses the song “You Can’t Stop Me” by Andy Mineo as a theme song. This song expresses how obstacles may feel like they are weighing us down and dragging us away from what we want to accomplish, it cannot stop us! This song explains that the true enemy in our way of our dreams and accomplishments is ourselves. After introducing this song at the beginning of the year, I had my class write down what the lyrics meant to them. During the year, it was refreshing to see them revert back to some of those lyrics when they were having a difficult time at home or at school. Researching through this weeks learning resources I found that the Humanism theory has different assumptions of the Behaviorism Theory. The Humanism Theory focuses on the human freedom and that people act with intentionality and values (Learning Theories, 2011). The aspect of Humanism I found most interesting is their belief in studying the person as a whole (2011). Humanist believes this study is essential in the understanding of the student’s development. I found this part most interesting because although I practice Behaviorism, I often find myself studying and trying to understand my students (individually) as a whole. I take in consideration each student’s upbringing, environment in which they live in, and the demographics in their home. I believe this study and observation is a step toward becoming a high performance teacher.
