Powerful corporations also have enormous influence on mainstream media. These multinational corporations own media stations and outlets. It is no secret many of these media institutions survive on advertising fees, which can lead to the media outlet being influenced by various corporate interests. As I stated earlier, these corporations have one goal which is increasing their profits in an industry that is competitive and always evolving. Therefore, big media company interest in maximizing profits interferes with or restricts how exercise of free speech or how we make speech possible by trying to not offend or start controversy. This leaves less diversity of speech for the public.
