In our society everyone has freedom of choice of what they do and their beliefs. When people say “I want this,”or “I want that,” it’s their choice of what they want. While in Jonas’s society, there is no freedom of choice. For example, when Jonas says,”Well…, If everything's the same, then there aren't any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things.A blue tunic, or a red one?”(Lowry 123). If they want a spouse they have to apply for one and they can't choose who to marry. In our society we are each individual and we are different to what we do and what we look like. While in Jonas’s society everyone is the same.Nobody is smarter than anybody faster nor better lookin. For example, when The Giver and Jonas are talking about colors and everyone being the same,The Giver says,”Our people made that choice, the choice to go to sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back.We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with differences… We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of others”(Lowry 120). In conclusion, you can see how Jonas’s society is nowhere alike with our society. We have Love, choices, and a variety of differences. While
