First part of the amendment is the right to free worship and speech. These two rights are relevant in our society today for the reason that it gives us the opportunity to stand up for what we believe in, without being persecuted. this means that people can petition and assemble peacefully without being arrested. People can set up a peaceful meeting or somebody but they just cannot close streets or public buildings so that they can carry out their petition. Recently in Chicago people have gathered to petition police violence, this happening in all 22 police districts. The people started marching from Saint Agatha church on Palm Sunday and went to the police station. A parishioner from Saint Agatha's church said "as children are accountable and people of faith are accountable, that our police need to be accountable for their behavior." These people wanted investigations on the shootings by police, the policeman kept people away by using barricades. The protesters started calling out names of people who were killed by police man. Saint Agatha's parishioner and Derek Strongs said "all were asking for is a safe community and a fair chance for all young children to grow and live in peace." This protest was a somewhat calm way to deal with an issue they felt was going on
