In our world, the choices you make and the actions you perform define your character. In the story, “The Father” by Hugh Garner , the dad has broken the relationship between himself and his son Johnny. When Johnny tries to repair their relationship by inviting his father to his scout dinner, it turns out badly. The father messes the evening up by drinking too much and turning into an angry man. When Johnny is presented with an award, his father decides to take Johnny's hand and put it in the air like he just won a boxing match. This embarasses Johnny and he does not want anything to do with his dad. You can see how the father’s character is shaped by the drinking and his actions at the dinner

She loved to go for walks and snuggle with me on the couch. My family was especially careful to not leave harmful things laying around.
