A volcanic eruption occured in Maya, in there days that they thrived A.D 250 to 900. Many articles state that this eruption was caused because of the rapid change in temperature at the time. A reporter from National Geographic said, "Mayan systems were founded on those [high] rainfall patterns, they could not support themselves when patterns changed." This change in the climate and eruption of the volcanoes essentially sent Mayan into its “Dark Ages.” Even though Mayans economy at the time was thriving, this major disaster setback not only the economy but the government as well. They didn’t have enough money or resources to come back from this. While in New Guinea the climate changes were quite the opposite, it got much colder. This temperature change led to farmers not being able to plant their crops effectively. Farming in New Guinea at the time was how the people made money and survived. Once the climate started to change, it was too late. There soil couldn’t handle the drastic changes in temperature, and it became non-fertile. It turns out that the forests surrounding the crops, couldn’t handle it either. Deforestation then started to come into effect. This all occurred because of the changes in climate. Soon after these events New Guinea began to …show more content…
Hurricanes are also a change in the weather patterns that destroy societies. Puerto Rico last September, got completely washed with a record breaking hurricane in there country. Scientific American stated, “The storms remove heat from tropical oceans in the form of moisture and pump the heat up into the atmosphere, where heat is redistributed and radiated out into space.” This is a great example of global warming. Hurricanes typically form in the Atlantic Ocean and cme up the coast of the Caribbean, then towards the United States. In this case “Hurricane Maria” came directly at Puerto Rico. This destroyed houses, schools, government buildings, and towns. Puerto Rico is not the wealthiest country, and certainly does not have a stable enough economy for this tragedy. When hurricanes occur there is more volatile weather patterns, which makes for more fierce storms. Whether this country will be able to come back from this in the next five to ten years is unknown. It clearly shows what global warming, and rapid changes in the climate can do to one
