Berry and Aubrey Westfall looks at the use of cell phones in the classroom and whether or not it can be seen as distracting as many people think. They use several different surveys to show what the general perception is. One of the surveys that they looked at was one that looked at the noise that a phone makes and if that was to be considered distracting and they found that “Over 80% of faculty members suggest the noise from cell phones do not cause any disruptions during a typical class period (Berry and Westfall 64).” It also goes on to say that “only 8% of students suggested that their personal phone use has had a negative effect (Berry and Westfall 64).” The usage of technology in the classroom to students appears to have very little effect on their grade.
