For the most part women were kept at home tending to house and children. On the off chance a women did get a job it was either low paying or she was looked down upon. This would be a constant battle that still occurs today. In 2015 it is not uncommon for a woman to be the sole provider to their family. It also is not uncommon for men and women to both work in their relationship providing two sources of income. In some cases the roles are reversed and the “traditional” household now has the men staying at home with the children and the women working. Education is also unlimited to women, and more opportunities are more open for women who wish to pursue it. Although this is all very true and much progress has been made, women still work in very much a “man’s world”. In an article titled Think Gender Struggles in the Workplace are History? Think again posted on the website Cognoscenti, Caryl Rivers and Rosalind C. Barnett write “Female representation on corporate boards has been shockingly flat for ten years, according to the Alliance Board for Diversity’s recent report Missing pieces”. Even though it has been one hundred years since women really started working in men’s jobs, it is still a struggle in Corporate America. The History Channels website writes about The National American Women Suffrage Association and how they fought not only for voting rights but for gender equality too (The Fight for Women’s Suffrage). In 1920 the 19th amendment was finally passed allowing women to vote without being discriminated. Ninety-five years later, and anyone of race, religion and color can vote in America. Unfortunately according to the 2014 Census report of, not even half of the eligible voters in America are voting, putting all the hard work our ancestors did to shame.
