In the Canadian context, assisted suicide allows an individual to have the assistance of an educated physician to help them along the way, who won’t be criminally charged. The law creates an opportunity for a safer more dignified exit from the earth. As Bayliss explains suicide is “frantically tricky” and many suicide attempts fail.
