These Reserves help protect the Pandas against poaching, which is the act of hunting the Pandas for their fur. In addition, the reserves help to protect the Bamboo trees against logging, which is the Cutting down of the Bamboo trees, so the Pandas can survive off the bamboo. Pandas are a very stubborn species mainly because they are highly dependable on Bamboo. There are not many minerals in bamboo for the Pandas to live off “The giant Panda 's Bamboo diet is of low nutritional value” (“giant panda” 5). To the Pandas, their food is either Bamboo or nothing, and the fact that Bamboo has not many minerals gives the Pandas a very week eating habit. The free wilderness of the Pandas is now a goal to bring back. For the Pandas, there are many factors contributing to the Destruction of the Giant Pandas Habitats causes the Pandas to face extinction (“giant panda” 7). Humans are destroying the Pandas land by cutting down the Bamboo trees, and building industrial cities in their place. While they are creating more land, they fail to replant the Bamboo trees that they removed. This drove the Pandas to face a giant decrease in population. An article of April 1, 2003 claims there were only 1000 pandas in the wild (“Beam” 5). That was a very low number for the population in 2003 compared to our recent numbers. The current population of pandas show that “Estimates put the country’s wild Panda population at more than 1,800” (Powell 24). Over 13 years there has been a growth of 800 Pandas, which is amazing!
