The Dark Knight rises is a film that depicts the action of the Batman to try and save the city of Gotham as the underworld is dark with many lurking criminals ruining the city. The film techniques used by the director Christopher Nolan are astonishing and significant to the film, the director uses a variety of techniques to create the dark underworld of Gotham. This a technique where dark colours and tones are used this makes any film more dramatic and intense as the audience are unsure of what’s going to happen in the next scene. The audience view this technique throughout the of the film as it is the dominant technique used by Christopher Nolan. They are plenty of example of this technique used in the film but an agile example is when Batman makes himself the scapegoat as he blames himself for Harvey Dent’s accident so that he may die as a hero. The way Batman escapes the policeman was significant as he escaped in the dark, the low key lighting played a big part to his escape as he demises himself in the dark. The theme of the movie was dark as Batman was dubbed “the dark knight” and wore a complete matte black costume. Another example of low key lighting is when a character who was once (Harvey Dent) a hero gets half of his face burned off the audience get to see a theme were that character is in a dark place hosting one of the police officer's family who he thought was responsible for why half his face was burned off. The director used diverse types of sound to try and create the dark underworld of Gotham as they were recurring sounds which were played to merge scenes together, for example in some scenes the audience could hear a unique buzz sound track which was also served with low pitched strings instruments to merge scenes together. The reason why the director uses this technique is because the sound has a negative feel, making the audience expect something bad is going to happen. The director also uses different types of camera shots to portray the dark underworld of Gotham for example, the audience view the Joker and other criminals in close up form and this makes the audience see the full character in detail.
