The three drugs that are commonly abused by teenager 's are Opioids, Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants and Stimulants all three of these drugs impact the physical and mental health in different ways . Opioids is a prescription drug that is used to treat pain. Opioids work in one way- when you take the medication it stops the brain from receiving pain, it messages a receptor and attaches itself to the brain and spinal cord[1]. When abused this drug has many short term and long term effects . The short term effects are coma, respiratory problems , confusion , nausea and many more and some long term effects are addiction ,cold flashes ,muscle pain and many other long term [2]. Furthermore Opioid has caused many deaths, in just over 10 years that number has doubled in Ontario, from (13.7% )high[3]. This proofs that prescription drugs have the ability to affect your mental and physical health. These drugs decrease the ability to think( cognitive function ) what can make a person do abnormal things such as driving careless, being passively aggressive or having sexual intercourse without protection that can cause to Hiv or other sexual transmitted diseases. 2.5 billion people ( 65%) use prescription drugs each day and in 2012 (24% )teenagers had took prescription drugs without the consent of a doctor and each year that number grows [10].
